Assistant Professor of Creative Writing and Poetics needed at the University of Bothell at Washington! Apply. (13656 hits)


One position, tenure-track (100% FTE, 9-month term appointment)

The School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (IAS) and the MFA in Creative Writing and Poetics at the University of Washington Bothell (UWB) seek a dynamic writer and educator working in experimental or innovative prose, including speculative fiction, fabulist fiction, cross-genre memoir, lyric essay, or other hybrid forms, and in poetics that inquire into the social, cultural, and/or technological aspects of writing.  Individuals whose work speaks to social, environmental, and/or racial justice, and/or indigenous issues are particularly encouraged to apply.  Duties of the position include: teaching undergraduate courses in creative writing and other fields of candidate expertise; offering an annual graduate course in the MFA; mentoring graduate thesis projects; and contributing to the creative culture of the MFA program through initiatives like the annual Fall Convergence on Poetics, Spring Festival, and work-in-progress thesis Salons. Candidates should expect to teach at all levels of the undergraduate and graduate curriculum.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements for the position include:

MFA or Ph.D. or other terminal degree (or foreign equivalent) required by time of appointment.
Demonstrated commitment to innovative and effective pedagogy
Demonstrated ability to teach upper-division core courses that introduce students to interdisciplinary inquiry in a portfolio-based undergraduate curriculum.
Demonstrated ability to address questions of diversity, equity and inclusion in courses and scholarship
Expertise in working with diverse student populations.

Three confidential letters of recommendation will be requested of candidates who advance in the search process.
