Director of Digital Initiatives and Technology, Assistant or Associate Professor
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is seeking energetic and innovative applicants for the position of Director of Digital Initiatives and Technologies. The Director is a library faculty member who collaborates with and supports the work of the Library and Information Services faculty. Reporting to the Dean of Library and Information Services (LIS), the Director of Digital Initiatives and Technologies is a member of the administrative team responsible for providing strategies and expertise for digital library services and collections including SIUE’s institutional repository services, web presence, and digital initiative projects in collaboration with other library departments. The position is a tenure-track faculty position.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Leads the Library and the Department of Digital Initiatives and Technologies in current and future development of digital library services and collections; enhances the digital delivery of library services and collections through the adoption of new technologies, funded projects, and partnerships.
• Collaborates with members of the administrative team to identify technology needs in the Library, and prioritizes and implements digital projects for the Library.
• Manages SPARK (Scholarly Publications and Repository of Knowledge) the University’s institutional repository and delivers critical IR services for the University and the Library; collaborates with librarians and archivist to curate and publish the university community’s born-digital and digitized assets.
• Works with the Dean and the administrative team to collect and analyze data for library services and resources.
• Serves as the liaison to SIUE’s Information Technology Services department.
• Supervises the Technology and Engineering Librarian and student assistants.
• Creates and implements, policies, programs, and procedures related to digital initiatives and technologies.
• Oversees the design and development, in collaboration with the LIS Web Committee, of the library’s websites; conducts user research to improve the Library’s web presence.
• Teaches digital technology for library faculty and staff; encourages integration of technology into the library’s physical and virtual presence.
• Participates in team-teaching sessions with various subject librarians to meet student needs.
• Represents LIS in campus-wide initiatives on knowledge management and institutional repository systems.
Terms of Appointment
Assistant or Associate Professor, 12-month continuing contract, tenure-track faculty position.

Negotiable dependent upon credentials and experience, with a minimum salary of $60,000 annually. Excellent fringe benefits.

Qualifications & Requirements Minimum Qualifications
• Master’s in Library Science or Information Science from an ALA accredited institution.
• Two years of relevant information technology experience in an academic library environment.
• Knowledge, experience, and demonstrated proficiency with discovery tools, open source programming and open access resources.
• Evidence of success and innovation in library technology.
• Strong commitment to service for user.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the trends and issues in academic libraries including emerging technologies and Informatics.
• Demonstrated project management and problem solving skills and an established ability to handle multiple responsibilities and projects concurrently.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Supervisory experience with full-time staff.
Preferred Qualifications
• A well-articulated understanding of the role and possibilities of technology in the teaching, learning, and research pursuits of a medium sized university with a strong teaching and research agenda.
• Professional commitment to librarianship and evidence of ability to meet LIS and university standards in librarianship, research and professional service in fulfillment of tenure requirements.
