Is there a recession? What recession? Seriously, Blacks/African-Americans are more diverse than you can imagine. It is truly amazing how 'we' tend to downplay/minimize our diversity, throw us all in one big bucket, and then ask a question around it. Shucks! I have not the slightest idea whether 'Blacks' are living better than worse than before. But if you read the newspaper and listen to the mainstream publications and toutings, EVERYONE is having a rough time. But what the heck do they know? Am I living better or worse than ever before? My question is BEFORE WHAT? A 'WHAT' didn't happen to me so I am clueless in that regards. Is there massive unemployment? YES! Are the price of goods increasing in stores? YES. I do shop. Is the price of movies/entertainment at an all high? ABSOLUTELY! I have disdain for movies but love theatre. Does it cost more for a laptop? NO. They're cheaper. Do I see less people at shopping centers/malls etc? NO. Parking lots are full. Is the cost of education at an all-time high? YES. Ridiculously so. You need to be a billionaire. Are Televisions and Electronics costly? NO. Televisions are cheap as all heck but YES WII and those dumb brain numbing xboxes etc are simply insanely expensive particularly when children are the target market. Are gymshoes expensive? I DON'T KNOW. But I do remember that in the poorest neighborhoods on the planet, there was a proliferation of Michael Jordan super duper ridiculously expensive basketball shoes (or whatever you call them) on our children's footsies. So I guess I was trying to be humorous with a touch seriousness there. I'm just fine AND I see that What's To Come Is Better Than What's Been. Because I Still Believe (by my Bishop Larry D. Trotter of Sweet Holy Spirit Church in Chicago) Tootaloo for now. God Bless Faith Sloan http://teamdiamondholiday.com

Let me thank you both Denise and Faith for commenting! Denise, I see your point, and I feel a person has the insight to live better no matter what situations come along. I know it is-- let's see... how I would phrase that....Oh yes, "Determination." I appreciate your opinion and views. Faith, of course I thank you for your input as well. You seem to know exactly what's working for you. I think it's totally great! However, everyone hasn't had very good living conditions, but some have improved their own with preserverance. I've seen some black families who were in total poverty, but have move on and rose up from it. Perhaps, and I speak this only hypothecially, that you've never known much hunger, or suffered much if at all. There are many blacks who have. That's what I am meaning by living better now than in previous times. Simplicity of living is a good living, I don't see in gain in wearing expensive or name brand clothing or shoes. Of course, I'm delighted that you live well and your expectations seem to be in high volume. However, don't forget there are some blacks, and other races who have not been as fortunate as you may be. Their living conditions could be full of grief; and their hope is felt escaped from them. Think of others living worse than you, then you may see what I am saying about living better or worse. It's not always so easy for them to overcome. It appears overall, you feel blacks living conditions aren't any "better or worse," at least this how I've understood what you've written and that there is little or no reason of a comparison. Let's not forget to be thankful though, and pray for others less fortunate than we. Thank you once more for your thoughts and responses. Continued blessing to you as well

I hear you MIISRAEL. But I never insinuated that I was living well not nor did I insinuate that I never went hungry. Yes, I have as I was raised in Chicago's Robert Taylor Homes (was never hungry then) and as I got older and was in high school I left home because noone can tell me what to do. LOL! So I lived in Cabrini-Green where you have to duck and dodge bullets. There were many times when I did without food or had to walk miles to the University for lack of busfare. And yes, I do know that there is widespread poverty all around the globe. Nonetheless, when I speak to some folks, we chat and laugh about the 'recession' because many has not felt the brunt of it. Why? Because they were in dire straits yesterday and are still in the same dire straits today. Unchanging ... relatively. But the question was rather open ended and the answers can be rather subjective. Also to ask if BLACKS are .... implies that ALL BLACKS are the same and there is no diversity inherent thereof. But if you would ask the question ARE AMERICANS .... or IS THE WORLD POPULATION ..., then I would be proned to answer the question with a resounding WORSE, OF COURSE! I am always thankful. I pray every single day multiple times a day. I give Praise to the Almighty God for without Him, I am nothing and without Him, I have nothing. My Queen Mother noticed that in Church this late morning that I was not dancing, shouting and praying out loud. I was praying but it was a series of silent prayers and questions of My Lord. So I spoke with my Mother as she was disrobing from her choir attire. She asked me what was wrong. Mother knows her daughter. LOL! I responded that my heart is very very unusually extremely heavy and I cried a lot during church. I just cannot for the life of me shake the images out of my head of little babies being dug out of rubble and those who survive no longer have a loving parent or anyone else in their lives. What has happened in Haiti is really heavy on me and I cannot shake it. Gosh! Maybe I am not SUPPOSED to shake it. BUT GOD! Sorry for digressing ... Okay Clark...."I goofed a tidbit... when the question didn't pose the precise location being in America thus-- I agree too, I could of made it more clearer. In my own way of thinking, I saw it in the perpective that the reader would think I was speaking of America. Just one those ASSUMPTION things! You know what they say about assume... You make an "AS out of U and ME. " Eee..Honk! Thanks for your comments I always appreciate what you have to say. I also believe values are a major part of doing better. There's always room to improve, even in posing ones questions.....See you later!
