It never ceases to amaze me that many American of colour, have a problem discussing the color of Jesus and other bible characters. Since Race is a BIG issue in this country, and everything that impacts the man of colour in this country is coloured by race, and Black people continue to be identified by an adjective instead of a noun, why do they say that in particular race issue, it doesn't matter? If it did not matter, we would not be talking about it. Michaelangelo would not have painted them white and the black reproductions would not be hidden in the Vatican.
If it did not matter, they would never have changed them in the first place. There would not be this movement to translate the bible again and the New International Translation would not have left out much of the information that would identify the blackness of the stories and characters.
If the colour of Jesus was not important, then why is the color of anybody a problem? and don't tell me it is not. I just had a white man tell me the other day that Obama was white. Anybody who says that colour is not an issue in this country, has their head in the sand. I am o ld enough to k now that nothing has changed. I was here before integration, during the sixties and since they stopped making an effort. I know when each era changed. ATTITUDES HAVE NOT CHANGED.
Some will say that it changed enough to elect a Black President. There are some who did not believe it would happen and we have had some before, they just passed. The latest one was Dwight D. Eisenhower. If you don't believe me, check out his mother. Don't for get, It was the white man who said that one drop made one black. Another thing, all who have dark hair and eyes, hips and lips have that one drop. After all none of that came from the caucasus mountins. How many white men do you know who look like Abe Lincoln? and now white america wants to say he has some kind of disease that made him look that way.
People, until the mind set of the less fortinute changes, particulraly American Africans or Blacks or what ever he has identified us by,nothing else is going to change. We need to take charge of us, and not wait for him to fix the problems impacting us. But first, we need to recognize what the problems really are and find our own solution then do it and stop talking about it.
