TRENDING NOW...DO CLOTHES TELL YOU ABOUT A PERSON'S PERSONALITY? (6973 hits)

There are clothes....then there are "CLOTHES!" What is your preception of how a person dresses in determining their personality type?

Do clothes make the man or woman personality wise?
How do you determine what they are like in comparining their dress/style with what they wear?
What kind of vibes does a person clothing send you?

{Thanks in advance for participating in my polls. I'm collecting data for a opinion research}

Some vibes are chilling (lol) however I will say this; when I first came to Christ I didn't have what is considered "appropiate clothes" for church. I wore what I had but it didn't speak about who I was as a person (although sometimes it spoke directly to who I was as a person). But when God blessed me then I blessed Him by wearing what is appropiate. This is a touch subject but can be discussed intelligently. There are many dynamics to this topic as well. When I was in the "world" I dressed accordingly (in every sense of the word) but now that I'm in Christ I know better and I dress accordingly. Sometimes I believe we get stuck in the "come as you are" syndrome and don't allow for God to "dress" ourselves appropiately. In response to your question, in some instances I believe it speaks and in other instances I believe it lies. The only person that can answer the question is the one wearing the clothing. It's an individual question.

You've given such great imput! I appreciate your comments in every way!

Clothes and church-- I've heard the come say that as you come are principle too, but if you do some of the none true hearted Christians will look down on you.. You know it's shameful they act in such manner.--.God provides for those who are real followers and these are ones that help give to the needy...by giving of their own coats ...or clothing. Not putting down what their wearing. I know God will give anyone proper dress if they ask and trust him in all needs of their life. You have given me inspiration! Thanks most graciously.

No! Clothing should never be the first formulation of someone's character. I have a full-time job that requires me to dress. My weekends? I want to feel laid-back -- blue jeans or sweats, and oftentimes my hair in a pony tail. Should I be judged because this makes me comfortable? Absolutely not! Much of my time is spent working, volunteering and mentoring. I give to those less fortunate, and oftentimes clothes from Saks or Lord and Taylor that I no longer wear. I believe this is also one of the reasons why I shy away from so many churches. I enjoy church, but I do not like being judged if I simply want to wear a pair of pants/sweater. I wear stockings and high heels all week long. There is something to be said about those who attend church, yet criticize others for not playing the game. Church is not a fashion show. Folks, it is a place of worship!

Anyar thanks for responding to the poll question[s] The main incentive is that many time clothing has developed a precept of character in many minds. How a person dresses is so often afflicated with how we preceive them. Often, we develop a type dress with a person's type. How often this is totally not always true. Getting to know the person takes more than what's been worn by them. Perhaps, it my way of reminding the old saying of "You can't judge a book by it's cover."

Appreciate your input.

As much as I don't want it to be so, I do make very quick perceptions about people based on dress. I do the same for myself. I feel differently depending on styles, colors and textures of clothes that I wear. However, I allow myself the wonderful opportunity to get to know people beyond my initial perceptions. I think even the color in the sky impacts many of us (e.g. cloudy day, bright, clear blue sky, more colors in nature during spring and summer).

Hello Denise...Sorry for taking so long to respond and thank you for your comments.
I was only browsing when I noticed it. As always I feel your have, and are honest in sharing your thoughts. I think too, if one is truly honest about perceiving what others are wearing one can be honest about what is worn too..thus sometimes a quick overview of what a person's wearing gives one a first impression of them, then one make look to other traits of his or her personality thereafter. The true inside of a personality will show-- what is worn will show through the dress of clothing even if; they are dressed in rags, or dressed as royality they will be eventually seen for whom they really are in personality.
Most gracious to you.

@JAKE

Thank you!
You've also given some great follow-up comments as well. Well expressed! Job interviews are tough..a person will try to make a good impression absolutely!--and to" dress the part " is also crucial in getting hired.

Hello to All,

This blog essentially is about dress and does dress telegraphs a message to others. Of course it does. You address tells the world whether you are ignorant or intelligent.

Dressing is important. I said before that one of the opportunities Black Americans will have as a sovereign people in our own country is to develop a dress code that would distinguish us from other people.

For instance, the people of Africa have a distinct dress code of bright colors. The people of India have a dress code as well. Chinese people have a dress code. White Americans/Caucasian people have a dress code. They dress in suits and ties and White women are modestly dressed.

However, because Black Americans have nothing, not even our own religion, our own prophet and our own religious book we are nothing but inferior people, and rightfully so because we are descendents of plantation slaves and not yet free. Slaves are not intelligent people neither are their descendents intelligent. Consequentially, we have no dress code. The Caucasian fashion industry decides how we should dress.

Now, I noticed that you all responded on a lower level when you mentioned job interviews, coming to Christ and wanting to wear jeans and your ponytail hair style on the weekends.

This type of mindset is the mind of an inferior people. You should be thinking about having a style of our own that would distinguish us as Black Americans from other people. Am I making any sense?

So, forget about the church. Forget about Christ. Forget about your job. Concentrate on a type of dress code that would distinguish us from other people. To do so is to make our mark inhumanity. Am I right or am I wrong?

Tell me what you think.
