This topic is rated (S) for Singles and (M) for Couples in the process of marriage and (P) for all Parents trying to understand the Children we have produced.
We want to take a look at the important role that maturity plays in a marriage or even a courtship. Studies have shown that waiting until you are older to marry (twenty-five and up) dramatically reduces your chances of divorce. It gives you time to really know and understand yourself, to understand what you need in a spouse, and what you have to offer a spouse. Marriages of people younger than twenty-five, however, are not automatically doomed. One of the common denominators among those young couples with flourishing marriages was maturity. How do mature spouses view themselves and how do they view the world? How do mature spouses view children? What happens to our children when we slap a ‘grown’ sticker on them and allow them to do adult behaviors, but have not yet been given the responsibilities and lessons needed to grow into mature adults? We all have immature moments in our marriages and relationships, but truly immature people will consistently have many unapologetically childish moments. Why should we pay careful attention to how our court mate acts when events don’t go his or her way? Should we marry immature people assuming they will mature in the future – and hoping for ‘soon.’ What happens to us and our marriage when we marry what appeared to be a mature person only to realize too late that they were really a child in disguise. Why do our marriages really need maturity especially in 2016? What role does it exactly play? How should our character be affected? What should be our attitude towards immature people in general?
